SAMARITAN SOCIETY FOOD DRIVE – JUNE 2-3

During the school year many children from needy families get free or low cost breakfast and lunch at school. However, when school is out for the summer the families need for food grows dramatically. So the St. Genevieve Samaritan Society will conduct a food drive to help these families through Catholic Social Services of Montgomery County. Please drop your donations off at the Narthex at St. Genevieve and the vestibule at Seven Dolors after each Mass on June 2-3. The following foods are particularly in need: peanut butter, cereals, canned tuna, turkey, stew, ham and chicken, pasta and pasta sauce, rice, canned soup, canned juice, coffee and tea. Thank you.

THANK YOU ST. GENENEVIEVE PARISH

St. Genevieve Samaritan Society would like to thank our parishioners for their generosity to our Thanksgiving Food Drive. We are also grateful to St. Genevieve CYO members and parents for their logistical help. As a result of your generosity we surpassed last year’s total by almost double. We were able to deliver two truckloads of food and $1000 in food cards to Catholic Social Services of Montgomery County and on Nov. 18, 20 & 21 we helped pack and distribute food to 200 needy families. Thank you again.

GOOD SAMARITAN GROUP BRIEF

How Can We Be Sure If We Are Loving God?

"Here the Lord asks only two things of us: love for his Majesty and love for our neighbor. . . . The surest sign that we are keeping these two commandments is, I think, that we should really be loving our neighbor: for we cannot be sure if we are loving God, although we may have good reason for believing that we are, but we can know quite well if we are loving our neighbor. And be certain that, the further you find you are in this, the greater the love you will have for God;"

The St. Genevieve’s Good Samaritan Society is a group of parishioners who are trying in small ways to do Jesus’ bidding and help our neighbors who are in need. As Jesus tells us in the Good Samaritan parable read at today’s masses, helping those in need is central to his message. If you are able, we would love to have you join us so we can accomplish more service. Please call Joe Manta at 215-353-7577.

Catholic Social Services of Montgomery County and the St. Genevieve Good Samaritan Club would like to thank the many volunteers from St. Genevieve for their invaluable help during the CSS Thanksgiving Turkey and Food Box Project. Due in large part to your efforts, the project was a great success and many families enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner that they may not have otherwise had.
