CANONICAL VISIT OF BISHOP THOMAS
June 7-9, 2008

The following is taken from a letter sent to Msgr. Matz from Bishop Daniel E. Thomas:

Dear Msgr. Matz,

All good greetings in the Lord! I am writing to extend my sincere appreciation to you and all those associated with St. Genevieve Parish for the warm welcome I received on the occasion of my Canonical Visit to the parish on June 7,8 and 9, 2008.

It was a great joy to celebrate the 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday, the 9:00 a.m. Mass at the parish’s worship site, Seven Dolors, and the 11:45 a.m. Mass at St. Genevieve on Sunday for your parishioners. I am so grateful for the opportunity to greet your parishioners after the Sunday Masses. Thank you for arranging the private visits with Fr. Carl Janicki, Deacon Michael Conroy, Deacon Joseph Nines and the D.R.E., Mrs. Ann K. Dougherty. The school visit with the principal, students, faculty and staff was a truly delightful experience.

The hospitable spirit of St. Genevieve Parish was most evident. The parishioners have a love for their faith, pride in their parish, and deep respect and appreciation for their new Pastor. You are to be commended for the conscientious attention you have given to the pastoral and spiritual needs of the flock entrusted to your care, even as you strive to address fund raising challenges. Your pastoral leadership has clearly already born fruit in St. Genevieve Parish.

St. Genevieve Parish will have a particular remembrance in my thoughts and prayers. May Our Lord bless you and your parishioners.

Fraternally in Christ Jesus,
Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas
Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia

ALTAR SERVERS NEEDED FOR
FUNERALS AT SEVEN DOLORS

We need adult volunteers to serve Funeral Masses at Seven Dolors.  For many reasons our group of available volunteers has dwindled over time.  We now need additional adult volunteers (men or women) to assist us from time to time at these liturgies.  If you can possibly help us, please call the rectory at (215) 836-2828 so that we can add your name to our list.7nbsp; Thank you.

Saint Genevieve Hospitality

A very special thank you to Agnes Nines for her eight years of dedicated service as coordinator of the Hospitality Committee.  We all owe a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything that Agnes has done for St. Genevieve in this ministry.  Agnes will continue to assist in our parish as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and in many other capacities.

R C I A -The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults-

It is not too early to begin thinking and planning about our parish RCIA program and its possibilities. Without reservation we must become an initiating community by being a welcoming supporting Christian parish. There are many roles to be assumed: evangelizers, sponsors, catechists, inquirers, candidates, and catechumens. The RCIA calls initiation a “spiritual journey” that varies according to the many forms of God’s grace, the free cooperation of the individuals, the action of the Church, and the circumstances of time and place. However, there can be no “spiritual journey” unless there are travelers. If you want more information on becoming a catholic please call Deacon Mike Conroy, Parish Services Director for more details at (215) 836-7219.
